APPLICATION OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

Supiyandi Supiyandi, Ramlah Binti Mailok

Abstract

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are essential for sustainable development as they amalgamate geographical data with sophisticated data science methodologies to improve environmental management. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) facilitates geographic data collection, storage, analysis, and presentation, offering an extensive platform for comprehending intricate environmental situations. By combining disparate datasets and leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence, GIS facilitates data-driven decision-making that balances human needs with environmental conservation. This synergy empowers public services to improve resource allocation, monitor environmental changes, and mitigate the impact of human activities on ecosystems. Ultimately, GIS is a critical tool for sustainable development initiatives, fostering a greener and more resilient future by promoting informed planning and effective management of natural resources.
