MORPHOMETRIC CHARACTERS OF MANTIS SHRIMP Erugosquilla sp. IN THE EAST COASTAL WATER OF NORTH SUMATERA

Abstract

Abstract:  As Criptic species, Information for identification and morphometric analysis of mantis shrimp Erugosquilla sp. in the East Coastal Water of North Sumatera is needed as based part of fisheries resource management in Sumatera island. Therefore, this study purposed to identify and compare the morphometric-meristic characters of mantis shrimp Erugosquilla sp. as well species kindship in East and West coastal waters from North Sumatera. The study was conducted from May until August 2023 with specimen collecting from 4 locations around of North Sumatera. Morphometric characters were observed with the standard method. Based on certain the Erugosquilla sp. morphological characters showed Kruskal Wallis analysis resulted in Morphometric difference of 10 from 36 characters with the standard method. Cluster analysis showed that 2 site population (Bagan Asahan, and Berombang) have close relationship compared to Belawan’s population. The species group formed describes the morphometric characters of mantis shrimp population and the response to change in their environment.
